ETAP Lighting Circularity in Emergency and Exit Lighting

ETAP Lighting’s Emergency and Exits are fully renovatable for the live of installation.

It has become a disturbing norm in Australia to simply throw away faulty Emergency and Exit lighting products.  For the maintenance staff within a building, it is cheaper to replace a product rather than repair.  Evacuation products have become a consumable.  Many products not stacking up to the manufacturers claims.

It is alarming that components are commonly not included within Emergency and Exit Lighting companies warranty statements.  If a products Battery fails within the warranty period, the consumer is left to decide if they replace the battery or the entire product.  Given many Emergency products on the market are not Designed for easy repair, it becomes an economic decision with the cost of the component and labor costs including re-installation.

With an imbalance economically in most products for repair, there has become a commodity on failing Emergency and Exit lighting with replacement products shared with testing companies, suppliers and maintenance companies which is lucrative and adds to Australia’s land fill.  Unfortunately, the fine print within the suppliers warranty statements omitting components supports the ongoing wrought, which inevitably costs the building owners.

40% of landfill in Australia is construction waste, Emergency and Exit Lighting include batteries, in most cases are Lithium.  Lithium batteries cannot be recycled in Australia, the batteries become a toxic, unstable waste adding to negative environment effects.  Presently in Australia, we send Lithium batteries, toxic waste off shore to be another countries environmental issue.

In the event of a fire, Lithium Batteries cannot be extinguished.  Lithium become a source of combustion in a building, often become unstable in warm environment as found commonly in ceiling cavities.  The Lithium battery becomes increasingly unstable and a fire hazard if they remain old and dormant (not used), this is a risk when the Emergency system is not used (no Emergencies lighting needed) and if the test cycle is only a function test that does not include a battery health test.  The testing companies companies commonly do not perform a battery health test because of the time the test requires – discharging the battery, recharging and testing the life via an additional performance test.  Comfortably in Australia more than 50% of installations do not perform battery health testing as required under AS2293.

Self-testing and monitoring by most suppliers offer a fault report without a diagnoses and the expected life of the LED and/or battery.  Meaning the Building management cannot comfortably know if they are Emergency read or if their building is compliant.

Better environmental solutions with ETAP Emergency & Exit lighting.

ETAP Lighting’s Emergency and Exit Lighting products are Engineered to be repaired, so each product will last the life of the installation.  Easy quick connects within the product housings make repairs fast and efficient, offering a complete circular Emergency and Exit Lighting system.

ETAP Lighting offer support for the repair of their products with EST+ comprehensive self-diagnosing and self-testing system and/or a remote comprehensive Monitoring system ESM.  Both ESM and EST+ will report faulty products with their location within the building, along with the fault diagnosis.

Environmental choice.

ETAP Lighting use Nickel Metal Hydride NiMH batteries in their Emergency and Exit Lighting as an environmental choice.  NiMH batteries CAN be recycled up 95% at the end of the batteries operational life, rather than being disposed off like Lithium and becoming toxic waste.  ETAP’s EST+ system performs regular battery health tests to help increase the battery life throughout the installation.

Inclusive Warranties.

ETAP Lighting stand by ALL of their products installations with a warranty that includes batteries and LED within the standard 5 year time (longer warranties available on request).  In the event of a fault, the EST+ system will advice the Maintenance staff of the fault via diagnoses, if under warranty the component will be sent as replacement free of charge.
